Incentives to start but no penalties to finish?

Dell, the second biggest manufacturer of PC’s in the world is to close its manufacturing facilities at Limerick in Ireland. This is a loss of 1900 jobs directly and maybe up to 6000 associated jobs effected as well. Dell has received to date €74.6 miilion in grants from the Irish goverment or crudely put, €9400 for each of the 7900 jobs effected. It seems there are no strings attached to these grants and so Dell can exit with no comeback to the cheaper plant in Poland.  Given that Dell represent 5% of Irelands GDP – this is a mega decision.

Doesn’t feel right to me!!
