I noticed today that SAP have paid Sun for extended support with the Java needed for SAP Netweaver. The article makes a judgement that perhaps SAP are using the increased fees for Enterprise Support to pay for this. It’s an interesting view but I guess it also reflects the fact that the links between operating software, database software and applications software all need to be synchronised and managed as one to continue your system environment.
One thought that this brings to the fore is why then don’t the “big boys” work more closely to collaborate on release strategies that give the customer base a better deal? After all – contented customers stay with you!
