Keynote speaker for Conference Day 3 Announced………Sahar Hashemi

Sahar Hashemi is the creator of two brands, earning her the title “pioneer to the life of the nation” from Her Majesty The Queen. Sahar’s first business success was Coffee Republic, Uk’s first coffee bar chain which she founded in 1995. She grew the business to 100 stores and a turnover of £30m before exiting in 2001. She then went on to found Skinny Candy, the guilt-free confectionery brand labelled ‘hip’ by Vogue magazine, which she sold to Glisten Plc in 2008.

She is author of the bestselling book ‘Anyone Can Do It- building Coffee Republic from our kitchen table’ which has been translated into 6 languages.

Overcoming the maintenance backlog

According to a report from Gartner last week, global IT debt will total approximately $500 billion in 2010, with the potential rise to $1 trillion by 2015 ( Gartner defined IT debt as the cost of clearing the backlog of maintenance that would be required to bring the corporate applications portfolio to a fully-supported current release state. While you can argue the validity of the overall IT debt figure, it is clear that a lot of organisations are deferring upgrades to their application portfolios in the face of ever-tightening IT budgets.

Research we carried out last year revealed that 54% of SAP users in the UK & Ireland were planning to upgrade their software over the next 12 months. However, of those questioned 70% felt that the cost of upgrading was too high, particularly at a time when organisations are facing reductions in IT budgets. So many organisations still face a difficult balancing act and need to be wary that delaying their upgrade cycle doesn’t bring unexpected long-term costs. For example, older versions may require more maintenance and management and have limited capability compared to newer versions.

Many SAP users will continue to face important decisions over the next 12-18 months as whether to upgrade their software, so guidance is essential. At this year’s annual user conference, we will again be aiming to further help educate SAP users on how to best approach upgrading their SAP software and make best use of the latest functionality. Hopefully by doing this, users will then be able to further realise the performance and cost-reduction benefits.

Further Support for 4.6C

You will be aware that over the last couple of years the User Group, as part of SUGEN (SAP User Group Executive Network), has been working with SAP on the Enterprise Support Charter, aimed at
ensuring that SAP customers get the best value from SAP’s support offerings.

As a result of this ongoing collaboration and the work of the Support Customer Advisory Council, SAP has announced that it will be extending the maintenance period for SAP R/3 4.6C customers.  Without this extension all 4.6C customers would have required customer specific maintenance from 2011.  However, customers will now be able to utilise the benefits of SAP’s Standard and Enterprise Support offerings until 31 March, 2013.

From 1 January 2011, SAP’s extended maintenance offering for 4.6C customers will be:

  • Enterprise Support Customers: extended maintenance for 4.6C will remain part of the Enterprise Support contract free of charge
  • SAP Standard Support Customers: extended maintenance for 4.6C will be offered at an additional fee of +6%
  • PSLE customers: extended maintenance for 4.6C will be offered at an additional fee of +6%
