Final Day…….thoughts #suguki10

The 2010 conference is now over. It was our “biggest and best ever” and everyone I’ve spoken to so far has said it delivered. For me a few things happened that really portray what the User Group is all about. As an example, I was party to a discussion between two senior representatives of very different organisations, one a major engineering company and another a major food manufacturer. Now typically these guys wouldn’t meet each other, but through the User Group conference came together and immediately found areas that they had in common and started to discuss how they could help each other. This networking is truly what the User Group is all about. The other area is influence, under the guise of the conference, some serious influencing took place, between Users, with SAP, and with partners. You can see this is happening all around you and the presence of Co-CEO Jim Snabe was really the icing on the cake, with Jim agreeing to take questions from the User Group live on stage.

The conference is now all packed up, the UG team are happy but tired and have all headed back home, but the planning has already started for next year so please put the following date and location in your calendar. November 20th to 22nd at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel – we look forward to meeting you all again for another great conference.

Day 2….thoughts #suguki10

Great day today some real engagement going on and seems to be well received by attendees. Think the question and asnwer thing worked (let us know otherwise) and Jim Snabe seemed to have audience listening well. Lunchtime in the exhibition hall seemed busy.

Some great tweeting going and amazed to see pictures up so quickly from the gala dinner which also seemed to go down well. Good deed of the night – stopping some delegates getting off the bus at the wrong Premier Inn!

Last day tomorrow and really pleased with the way things have gone so far. Looked forward to keynote at 0930.

Day 1…..thoughts #suguki10

We’re quietly happy about our first ever conference start on a Sunday. Good numbers  and some good engagement going on. After an opportunity to look at roadmaps and an saas session delegates had time to meet the exhibiting organisations  (all 75 of them). As ever when you walk round numerous marketing incentives head towards you – my two most interesting ones that I saw were both very practical – a miniature bottle of 10 yr old Scotch Whisky and a great ice scraper (possible snow on the way for the end of the week). I’ll not say where they are – that’s for delegates to search out……….

Had a great chat with some of the exhibitors and I mustn’t forget to mention the SAPmentors stand, go and talk with them, you’ll learn lots of clever stuff.

Also got some quality time to sit and talk with Greg Pike and Tonnie van der Horst – some great work going on there.

Official – biggest ever attendance #suguki10

It’s official our 2010 conference is the biggest we have ever done – absolutely amazing!! Given the times we live in this is a great reflection on the value being served up to delegates.

You can still arrive on the door and pay for attendance by credit/debit card so if you were indecisive and now really want to get this value just turn up on any of the days (Sunday 3PM, Monday 9AM, Tuesday 9AM) and pay on arrival (day rates are available). Manchester Christmas Markets #suguki10

Arriving early to the conference on Sunday – Why not visit Manchester Christmas Markets?  Remember conference starts at 4PM Sunday http://www.manchestermarkets.com/Specialist-Markets/Christmas-Market/Christmas-Markets_15_p2.asp

Biggest ever…….not too late to attend #suguki10

Only 2 weeks to the conference……….

So far (fingers crossed) everything is going to plan…..in fact if things keep going as they are I could be announcing the biggest conference we’ve done yet. It’s not too late to get registered but don’t leave it too late – there’s more streams, bigger speakers, more exhibitors, a great networking opportunity at the gala dinner, and more time…..all for the same or lower cost (depending on numbers and when you registered) as last year. Now that’s what I call great value. For the whole three days I think that’s better than just half a day’s consultancy cost! Go to www.sapusers.org/conference2010 for more details.

ERP goes mobile

Despite the global economic downturn, mobility is still something that organisations are willing to invest in.  With mobile devices becoming ubiquitous, being able to mobilise ERP applications means that companies can benefit from improved quality of service, greater productivity, deeper business relationships, and more accurate data capture.  All of this can help them achieve competitive advantage especially during these tough times.

So when SAP acquired Sybase in May earlier this year and promised that the two companies would work together to deliver the SAP Business Suite to a mobile environment that could run on different mobile devices and operating systems, people’s ears pricked up.

Well, all this talk recently became reality with SAP announcing that its Business ByDesign product is now available for use on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Best of all, it’s free for customers using SAP’s feature pack 2.5 for Business ByDesign that was launched in July. This new incarnation of Business ByDesign means that both managers and sales staff can have access to the information they need to make critical decisions and keep their organisation moving along no matter where they are.  It’s also been confirmed that the next version of SAP Business ByDesign available will support BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone 7 operating systems. SAP is also planning to enable partners to create supplemental content, which can then become an incremental part of the application.

As mobile increasingly becomes the new desktop, it’s great to see SAP helping organisations maximise the efficiency of their on-the-go workforce.  There will also be a number of mobile sessions taking place during this year’s annual user conference, so please check out the current conference programme for further details http://bit.ly/aJmiu5
